Volunteer Opportunity - Adult Basic Education Tutoring
Volunteer Opportunity Details:
| Last updated on June 5, 2012 |
Tutors volunteer weekly in Adult Basic Education classes focused on reading/writing/math or English for Speakers of Other Languages. Tutoring takes place one-to-one, in small groups, or as a classroom assistant. We match you with a class that meets your schedule and interests, and training is provided.
Our tutors really enjoy this opportunity, and have made comments like:
"...a wholly rewarding experience. I have taken pride in watching the my student's progress."
"I was a little nervous at first that I would not be effective, but I have surprised myself."
"It was worth it to hear my student who passed the GED say "I wouldn't have made it without you." Also, she was asked to do a math task at work and realized she could now do it.
Volunteers should be patient, enjoy working with people and learning about other cultures. Knowledge of other languages (especially Spanish) is helpful but not at all required. We provide training and support.
