Start Something as a Mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Franklin County Education Mentoring Youth

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on June 5, 2012

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Franklin County supports the growth of a strong social community through mentoring, over 40 years in the making. Being a Big Brother or Big Sister is as simple as being a friend or someone for a child to hang out with, and as meaningful as a consistent presence, even a role model. When you become a Big, just by spending a few hours taking a walk, playing music, creating an art project, or going to a Celtics game, you will know that you are making a positive impact in the community and in the life of a family in need. Our Big Brothers and Sisters enjoy learning the simplicity of childhood all over again, and being a mentor contributes to better relationships and an important sense of giving back to their community.
If you are interested in learning more about this volunteer opportunity, please contact us via email at info@bbbs-fc.org or by phone at 413-772-0915. You can also check out our website www.bbbs-fc.org for more information.
Our community based program recruits, screens, and matches adult volunteers over the age of 18 with youth between the ages of 6-14. As a Big, you can be assured that we will match you will a Little Brother or Little Sister that shares your interests and is excited to spend time with you. Case managers are always available to help your match develop and answer questions and concerns. Potential volunteers are interviewed, and are subject to reference and background checks before being matched. We ask our volunteers to meet with their Little Brothers or Sisters 2-4 times per month for at least one year, as their schedule allows. The meeting times are completely flexible and intended to make adding a child into your life easy and enjoyable.

Volunteers must be 18 years of age, live or work in Franklin County, and have reliable transportation.
