FriendshipWorks' mission is to decrease isolation, enhance the quality of life, and promote the dignity of older adults and people with disabilities through a network of trained volunteers in the Boston/Brookline area.
Description:
We recruit, screen and train volunteers to provide a variety of services in order to relieve isolation and enhance the quality of life for elders and adults with disabilities. Our programs include the Friendly Visiting Program, the Medical Escort Program, the Short Term Assistance Program, The Strong for Life Exercise Program and the PetPals Pet Visitation Program. FriendshipWorks staff provide training and support to all volunteers.
History:
In 1984, Boston area congregations and health care organizations came together to create a new interfaith coalition dedicated to meeting the needs of frail and isolated seniors by matching them with volunteers who would provide assistance rooted in friendship. We have served over 18,000 Boston area elders and disabled adults and have provided over half a million hours of assistance.
