To mobilize adults, age 55 and over, to contribute their skills and experience in meaningful service activities that help strengthen and expand the capacity of local community service organizations.

With over 80 local nonprofit and public Partners, SOAR 55 offers a professional, personal and thoughtful approach to placing individuals in meaningful skills-based volunteer assignments.

Description:
SOAR 55 is an RSVP project, part of a national network of volunteer agencies that seeks to help meet critical community needs through the volunteer service of adults age 55 and over. For over 30 years, SOAR 55 volunteers have contributed in a variety of ways to enhance their lives and those whom they serve. Some opportunities include: mentoring incarcerated women enrolled in Boston University's "College behind Bars" program; providing management consulting assistance to nonprofits in need through the award winning SOAR 55 Nonprofit Management Consulting Group program; tutoring elementary school children in reading or math;serving on a professional committee for an "age in place" program that enables adults to remain safely in their homes as they age through a membership organization, and much more. SOAR 55 serves Newton, Framingham, Natick, Wellesley, Wayland, Weston and Ashland.

History:
SOAR 55 (originally RSVP Metro West) has been a vital part of the metro west Boston community since 1973. SOAR 55 is locally sponsored by Newton Community Service Center.Inc. Over 3 decades, SOAR 55 has linked thousands of volunteers to interesting and rewarding volunteer assignments.
