Hospice of Lancaster County is dedicated to providing comfort and support to help patients and families live better at end of life. Care is available to anyone in Lancaster County who is coping with a serious illness. Extensive support is also available for families following the loss of a loved one.

Description:
Everyone is entitled to good end-of-life care. Hospice is a specialized kind of care that focuses on comfort rather than cure for people who have weeks or months versus years to live. Hospice of Lancaster County provides quality end-of-life care for adults and children, and their families. Hospice is for people with any illness including heart disease, lung disease, cancer, AIDS, and Alzheimer's disease. Hospice of Lancaster County is our community's only locally-owned, not-for-profit hospice provider, caring for anyone regardless of insurance or ability to pay.

Hospice care is provided at home first and foremost. It is our goal to keep your loved one at home (be it a residence or a nursing home) for as long as possible. If an advanced level of care is needed, the Essa Flory Hospice Center is available. It is a 12-bed, home-like environment that provides a place for the entire family to gather while their loved one receives around-the-clock care. Support groups meet weekly at the Hospice Center as well.

History:
Hospice of Lancaster County was founded in 1980 by a group of community leaders in response to a series of articles called "Terminal Candor" by Rev. Donald Wilson. Rev. Wilson was coping with a terminal disease, and brought to light the need for more specialized support and care, as well as an understanding of the dying process and a willingness to talk openly about it. Hospice of Lancaster County is the only locally-owned, not-for-profit hospice provider in Lancaster County.
