Aging Resources of Central Iowa is a private, non-profit service agency that administers programs and services to elders 60 years of age and older in central Iowa. Aging Resources partners with government officials, providers of services, senior citizen organizations and individual elders in establishing educational, legislative, and action programs to improve the quality of life for older Iowans.
Aging funds are distributed and services provided to an 8 county service area (Boone, Dallas, Jasper, Madison, Marion, Polk, Story, and Warren) via 56 contracts with 32 agencies. Aging Resources also has case managers in each county in their service area that coordinates services for frail older adults and persons on the Title XIX Elderly Waiver program.
Aging Resources assesses and surveys the needs of older adults within central Iowa, identifies service gaps, develops plans to fill these gaps, and works to insure that the older population has access to appropriate programs, services, and institutions.

In 1973 the Central Iowa Regional Association of Local Governments (CIRALG), applied for designation as an Area Agency on Aging (AAA). In 1981 a special sub-committee of CIRALG recommended that the AAA become a free-standing, private, non-profit agency. In 1982 the Iowa Commission on Aging (now Iowa Department on Aging) granted AAA status to CrossRoads of Iowa Area Agency on Aging, Inc. with the same eight county service area (Area XI). In 1994 the Strickler Emergency Assistance Program was created. In 1996 the agency’s name changed to Aging Resources of Central Iowa to help identify the purpose/mission of the agency. And in 2002, Aging Resources Board of Directors established Aging Resources Foundation as a separate 501(c)3.
