-To provide the information, support and encouragement parents need to help their children develop optimally during the crucial early years of life
-To assure that children zero to five years of age and their families have the resources they need to succeed
-To create a national model for early childhood and family support that provides the community an integrated campus of service; and
-To demonstrate private-sector leadership in early childhood services with ongoing engagement of public and private early childhood services supported through broad support from the general public

Description:
FAMILY serves families with children prenatal to school entry in Pottawattamie County. Services are provided in homes, shelters, and other community settings. FAMILY assists parents in becoming their child's first and most influential teacher through education and empowerment in:

Brazelton Newborn Behavioral Observation
Breastfeeding
Caring for and parenting infants and toddlers
Child PassengerSafety (Car Seat Installation)
Crying Prevention (Happiest Baby)
Developmental screenings
Home safety checks
Infant Massage
Maternal Depression screening
Use of community resources.
FAMILY is the Maternal and Child Public Health provider for Pottwattamie County. We are the lead agency for Safe Kids Loess Hills covering Pottawattamie County.

History:
FAMILY was founded in 1991 under the auspices of the Loess Hills Area Education Agency.

In 1998, FAMILY's Director(Connie Gronstal) along with Tom Bouska( DHS), Matt Madsen,(Pott.Co. Decat), Stan Grote (Pott. Co. Board of Supervisors, and Janelle Shain(AEA13) convened a group of Pottwattamie citizens to form an Empowerment area. FAMILY was the cornerstone of the family support envisioned by this group.

In 2007 FAMILY, Inc became a separate 501.c3 tax exempt organization, in order to provide more support to families of young children.
