The Pet Project Midwest works to improve the lives of low-income families by keeping their loved pets in the homes that love them.
Description:
The Pet Project Midwest (TPPM) is making the world a better place through kindness to animals. The Pet Project Midwest is dedicated to keeping pets with the people who love them through proactive programming. We receive financial support through private donations, corporate sponsorships and grants. Our management team is an unsalaried board of directors. The Pet Project Midwest operates a pet food pantry, which provides pet food and supplies to families experiencing financial difficulties. We partner with Des Moines Area Religious Council to distribute food through the area food pantries for humans.
History:
The Pet Project Midwest was founded in 2009 by five women with a shared passion for animals. We started with Iowa Pet Alert, an "Amber Alert" system that uses the Internet to reunite lost pets with the families that love them. We received 501c3 nonprofit status in February 2010 and began distributing food through The Pet Pantry one month later. Within one month, The Pet Pantry was already serving 350+ families.
