Beacon Day School, a pre-school through 8th grade independent school in Oakland, seeks non-parent board members to complement our small but committed group.
Beacon is often called "what a school should be" -- a place where kids love to be every day, and where parents know they are getting their education at an individual pace. Beacon values family time outside of school -- students do not have homework because they attend school all year. (That's right - no pulling your hair out to find camps for the summer! No academic "summer slump." Families can take vacation when they like.) Students also benefit from weekly art, music, dance, Spanish and computer classes. Our students are exceptionally kind and secure, while also fearless in their pursuit of education.
We are a small school (under 200 students) looking to increase enrollment. We need the expertise of new board members from "the outside" to help grow this East Bay gem and example of what school CAN be!
**Special consideration will be given to individuals with professional expertise in any of these areas: Law, finance, marketing, school admissions.
