The Salvation Army's mission is to provide basic human needs: shelter, food and clothing. We believe that once that first step is completed, the work can begin to assist people with their personal emergency.

Description:
The Salvation Army's largest social service program in the Quad Cities is the Family Service Center. This facility houses up to 104 people (children and their parents) each night, provides over 300 meals each day, and is the place people can turn when they have no where else to go.

The 50-60 children that live at the shelter are in need of attention. Homelessness can be quite a life altering experience. The children endure a lack of stability, safety, privacy and reassuring routines. The more people that they interact with, the better.

The parents meet with a caseworker each week to show proof that steps to meet goals are being accomplished. Whether it is finding work, getting education, a GED, a promotion to the next level of pay at work, or finding permanent housing...our caseworkers are able to guide the clients to that next step. But client must work hard. We cannot do this for them.
