National Volunteer Week

Over 100 members of the Evanston community were on hand at the April 13, 2011 sixth annual Evanston Volunteer Recognition Reception hosted by Evanston Township High School, the Evanston Community Foundation, the City of Evanston, and Northwestern University.
Outstanding Volunteers for 2011 included; Evanston Township High School students, Brianna Spencer, Darcy Miller, Savannah Turner, Northwestern University students, Alice Feng, Rebecca Swan, Camille Taylor, and members of the Evanston community, Misha Boutilier, Faith Albano, Liz Brieva, Geri Sizemore, Veronica Mendoza, Cindi Schuneman. Special recognition went to Judy Kemp to honor her 17 years of service as the director of Brillianteen.
Awards were presented by Burgwell Howard, Northwestern University Dean of Students, Martin Lyons, Assistant City Manager, Eric Witherspoon, Superintendent of Evanston Township High School, and Sara Schastok, President and CEO of the Evanston Community Foundation.
Keynote speaker, Megan Kashner, shared her volunteer experience as the Eastern-Central Region's Executive Director of Taproot Foundation. Megan encouraged those in attendance to learn more about pro-bono volunteerism as a valuable form of service that all individuals and businesses can support.
