Make a Difference in the Life of a Child . . . Become a Foster Grandparent! Foster Grandparents are volunteers 55 years of age or over who serve at community agencies such as preschools, child care, Head Starts, and elementary schools with direct supervision from a teacher/staff person. Volunteers serve between 15 and 40 hours a week and receive a small, non-taxable stipend that by federal law does not affect rent calculations or other benefits. Tasks depend on the age of the child, but are generally related to tutoring, mentoring, and self-esteem building. Placements are available at varied locations throughout Chittenden, Franklin, Grand Isle, and Washington counties. Volunteers must be able to work with children, have the stamina for at least a 15-hour a week placement, and be warm and caring. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements, complete an application and interview, provide 2 non-family member references and agree to a background check. Volunteers receive 20 hours of pre-service training, site orientation and periodic in-service training. This opportunity is sponsored by: Foster Grandparent Program
