Help Your Neighbors Complete Their Tax Returns

Northwest Michigan Community Action Agency (NMCAA) offers free tax preparation at sites in Traverse City, Cadillac, Petoskey, Kalkaska, Bellaire, Frankfort, Roscommon and West Branch. Our program is supported by the IRS and the State of Michigan to help area residents claim all of the tax credits they have earned and need.

Tax volunteers also provide a quality review of returns prepared by other volunteers.

Volunteers are reimbursed for mileage. There is no liability for volunteer tax preparers as the program is sponsored by the IRS. Some tax preparation experience preferred but not required. Tax preparers are required to pass a basic IRS test before preparing taxes. A 3-day training on basic return preparation and TaxWise software offered in early January. Also, IRS training course is offered on-line. Training materials will be provided.
