The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History is looking for indoor assistance at the Front Desk, Gift Shop, membership, in the History Hall, Marshview Room, Aquarium and John Hay Room.
Field Guide and Mudflat Mania! guides are trained in April and late May. We are open 7 days a week and have 2 shifts, 9:15-12:45 and 12:45 - 4. The web site is a wealth of information.

As part of our “green building” renovation we have expanded our exhibit area. Docents help our visitors with bird sightings at the feeder observation windows, questions about the salt water tanks and varied exhibits, information about our green building design, and general sanctuary orientation. Shifts are 3-4 hours long, once a week in summer, flexible winter hours. more
Volunteers needed to check terrapin nesting sites on the sanctuary and other Outer Cape locations, and to put up predator exclusion cages, as part of a long term conservation project for this species. Requires a once per week commitment during nesting season (June and July).
In late summer and fall, volunteers are needed to check the cages for terrapin hatchlings. more

Wellfleet Bay Sanctuary will be organizing a census of adult spawning horseshoe crabs in April through July on multiple beaches from Wellfleet to Orleans. Surveys take place on full and new moon high tides,including evenings and nights. You may sign up for the season, or for just a few specific dates and times. Baywatchers are volunteers that help assess and evaluate water quality and long-term ecological trends in all of Buzzards Bay's harbors and coves from Westport to Woods Hole. Each year approximately 100 volunteers measure water quality at nearly 130 places Bay-wide.
The purpose of the program is to:
1. Establish baseline water quality in approximately 30 harbors and coves.
2. Document long-term trend more
Land Steward’s Role:
The primary responsibility of the land steward is caretaking, “to be a presence on the land”. Land Steward activities include walking the parcels at least 4 times a year and submitting parcel evaluations that include information such as presence of trash, any invasive species noted, and how the land is being used.
