Volunteer Opportunity Details:
| Last updated on December 10, 2012 |
The Esperanza mentoring program is aimed towards developing positive relationships between youth and adults to assist students in achieving their academic, professional and personal goals. Esperanza is looking to expand its mentoring program so that more of our students are connected to adult mentors who aide them in school and life. A mentor offers their time, assistance, and advice. Mentoring occurs in the form of relationship building, positive experiences, and fun activities. Mentors and mentees are able to set their own meeting times around their schedule. The Mentoring Coordinator also assists in setting meeting times and events. Successful mentoring relationships have resulted in students being more aware of their education and career opportunities, increased self-esteem, and developing long lasting relationships with positive adult role models.
Prospective mentors complete an application, background check, and undergo an interview and orientation prior to being matched. Mentors should have obtained or currently be pursuing a college education or post-secondary training.
