Bellefaire Adoption Department seeks volunteer

Bellefaire JCB is seeking a volunteer in the adoption department at its Shaker Heights main campus to assist with high-level record keeping. Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing historical adoption records for placement with a storage company.
  • Assisting with the preservation and tracking of personal adoption records used for potential searches and reunions.
  • Assisting with developing tracking mechanisms for a) specialized staff training, b) marketing efforts, and c) Division inquiries (not related to Intake inquiries).
  • Assist with the coordination of mailing and preparation of material packets and forms.

Through this position, the volunteer will gain valuable experience with a highly respected social service agency and develop networking opportunities with skilled management leaders and experienced social workers.

The successful volunteer must be reliable, organized and self-motivated. He/she must demonstrate the ability to complete complex projects and successfully accomplish goals in a work setting. It is essential that the volunteer respect the privacy of clients and hold in confidence all information obtained. All client-related documents must be handled in accordance with Agency guidelines on confidential material.

Volunteer applicants must be 21 years of age or older. Bellefaire JCB requires that volunteers have a background check and a physical exam before being able to begin work. Hours and frequency will be determined with the Director of Adoption and Foster Care, who oversees this position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Education: Minimum High School diploma or GED
  2. Licensure: none
  3. Skills: Ability to perform job responsibilities with a high degree of initiative and independent judgment.
Demonstrated oral and written communication skills and effective interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in using computer systems and software as required.
Practical and creative problem solving skills.
Sensitivity in relating to persons of varying backgrounds and demonstrate ability to work with diverse groups of people possessing various strengths, aptitudes and abilities.
