The mission of the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank is to Feed People and Fight Hunger.
Description:
The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbnk provides food and other essential items to member agencies in eight Northeast Ohio counties: Carroll, Holmes, Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit, Tuscarawas and Wayne. These agencies operate more than 460 programs like food pantries, hot meal sites, shelters and other hunger-relief programs in the neighborhoods and communities where people need food.
History:
In 1980, a group of hunger centers and other interested groups met to discuss ways to meet the needs of the increasing number of families requesting food assistance. The Akron Area Food Coalition was founded with a goal to organize a Foodbank in the greater Akron Area. In 1982, the Akron Area Foodbanc was formed and began distributing food in September of that year.
