Family & Children's Service of Greater Lynn, Inc.
|Last updated on July 3, 2013|
Family & Children's Service of Greater Lynn (F&CS) has been helping families thrive since 1885. Our mission is to strengthen the life skills of families, children and individuals of all ages. This is accomplished through a range of preventive programs offered directly or in collaboration with other organizations in our community.
F&CS employs a philosophy of community wellness in the delivery of services that honors and expands upon the strengths of our clients. We envision a community of individuals and families connected to resources and to each other, in which all persons are given the opportunity to achieve their fullest potential:
•Each child’s development has been monitored and nurtured
•Every child has mastered the skills needed to begin school
•Parents are connected to important resources and to each other
•All youth benefit from positive life experiences and healthy self-esteem
•Our seniors receive respectful care and attention
•Those in crisis are provided tools for healing that preserve their dignity
Services include early childhood programs, which support early literacy and healthy child development, and parent education and support programs, to build strong families. Our Asset-Building Groups for Girls and Youth Drop- In build resiliency and confidence, and connect at-risk youth with positive role models. Our Elder Care Management, Mental Health Counseling, and Emergency Financial Assistance programs serve the neediest of the needy: those vulnerable, isolated or in despair. Our programs are instructive and therapeutic, executed by educators and mental health professionals. We are one of the few agencies that serve individuals and families concurrently through generations; that teaches skills and supports learning in the achievement of long-term goals that contribute to community wellness. It is this capacity-building focus, employed by a team of highly-committed and credentialed practitioners and licensed clinicians that distinguishes F&CS, both as a direct service provider and as a sought-after community partner.
F&CS can trace its lineage back to 1885, when Lynn Associated Charities was first organized. Since that time the organization has evolved and merged with other local nonprofit and family service agencies. In 1959 the agency officially incorporated as Family & Children's Service of Greater Lynn, Inc. and moved into its present location at 111 North Common Street in Lynn. True to its founding, F&CS remains a trusted and stable source of support and assistance for families, children and individuals in Greater Lynn.
