Holiday Projects

Adopt-A-Family

These donors provide food for the holiday meal and other non-perishables, a new toy/gift for each child and perhaps clothing item for each family member.  The donor(s) will be contacted with the name, address, phone number of the recipient and the first names, ages and sex of each child.  The donor then uses this information to contact the family, discuss any special needs, and arrange a specific date and time for delivery.

Toy Drive

The Volunteer Office of DSS coordinates "Toy Stores" where parents can choose new toys for their children.  They are staffed by volunteers in donated space with new, donated toys.  You may help by donating new unwrapped toys or making a cash donation to the Fund for Social Welfare, a charitable organization, for toy purchases.  Toys for all age groups (up to 14) are needed with value ranging from $10 to $30.  Organizations may place a display in their lobby or shop.  Gifts are needed by December 12.

Food Baskets

Donors prepare food baskets which the clients can pick up or which the donors may deliver to the client.  Some suggested ingredients:  cranberry sauce, cold/hot cereal, instant mashed potatoes, rice, noodles, cookies, canned tuna, canned sweet potatoes, canned fruit, soup, stuffing, canned vegetables, fruit juices.  A food certificate for the perishable items (including turkey or ham), additional staple items, and personal needs (shampoo, soap, toothpaste, etc) are welcome.

Mitten/Sock/Hat/Undies Tree

We distribute these items at our "Toy Stores" along with donated toys.  All sizes are needed.

If you have any questions, please contact Deborah Ward, Director, Volunteer Office, Baltimore County DSS at 410-853-3024.
