Day To Serve - Tree Planting At Dulaney Branch

RSS XML FeedBackground Active Aug 27, 2013 to Sep 27, 2013

Why: This is a wonderful opportunity join a statewide initiative of service and be a part of a 12 year project to restore a riparian (stream bank) forest buffer along, Dulaney Valley Branch, an important tributary of Loch Raven Reservoir. On Sept. 28th, we will be planting up to 50 native trees on .25 acre. More than 22,000 trees have been planted throughout the Gunpowder Watershed by enthusiastic GVC volunteers since the early 1990's and we need your help to plant even more!

Who: No Experience is necessary! We are looking for adults and student volunteers who care about the Earth, our watershed, and the Chesapeake Bay! Do you like being outside in nature and don't mind working hard? Do you want to receive community service hours? Then come and join us, and make a difference for future generations!

When:  Rain or Shine! Volunteers please arrive by 9:45 am to sign in. We will start planting on Saturday, Sept. 28th at 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Volunteers will be asked to help clean up as well. Refreshments will be provided.

Where: From Timonium Rd. or 695: Take Dulaney Valley Rd. north. After crossing the bridge at Loch Raven Reservoir, bear right at the light, continuing on Dulaney Valley Rd. At the restaurant on corner of Dulaney Valley Rd. and Loch Raven Drive, take a sharp left, staying on Dulaney Valley Rd. Look for the white gazebo on the left about 1/10 mile down the road, and the Gunpowder Valley Conservancy tree planting sign. Turn left into the gravel parking area at white gazebo. We will direct you from there.

Equipment: Wear long sleeves and pants, boots, hat, gloves, and bring water bottle, rain gear, and tick repellent. Bring large shovel and large head hammer with your name on them if you have them. Bring your lunch and water!

To register, contact: Tonee Lawson via email at volunteers@baltimorecountymd.gov or by phone at 410-887-3101.
