The Gunpowder Valley Conservancy (GVC) is a nonprofit local environmental organization chartered in the State of Maryland in 1989. The activities of the GVC are conducted through committees of volunteers working in cooperation with local, state and national programs of government agencies, foundations and other conservation organizations.

Description:
The Gunpowder Valley Conservancy performs several important missions within the Gunpowder watershed. It acts as a local land trust for those property owners wishing to place their land or portions of their land within a land trust, conservation or preservation easement. The GVC also acts to protect and restore the natural resources found within the watershed and has been involved in the restoration of stream buffers, stream clean ups, and general reforestation activities. It also sponsors and leads Better Waterways Fall Clean Up each November throughout the Gunpowder Watershed.

History:
The GVC has been chartered in the State of Maryland since 1989 and presently manages over 1,500 acres of land in conservation easements. Over 7 thousand volunteers have helped the GVC to plant 21,000 trees on 110 acres in the last 20 years. GVC has planted in State parks, reservoir buffers, stream buffers and conservation easements. The GVC has partnered with elementary, middle, high school and college students from throughout the Gunpowder Watershed. It regularly collaborates with County and State agencies in the performance of its environmental activities.
