This volunteer opportunity requires a commitment to eight weekly therapeutic groups for two hours each; an interest in learning about group work with children; lots of patience – and a sense of humor. Applicants must like working with children, and making a difference in the life of a child. Applicants will support the work of developing coping skills for children who have experienced a high level of stress. It’s going to be a fun group for the kids – lots of activities – and the final night/late afternoon of the group we will invite parents. It’s not a “talking therapy” group, but we hope will be equally powerful in helping kids share/learn. Kids are going to be taught stress reduction techniques; relaxation exercises; mindful breathing; as well as each of the kids in the groups will create something over the course of the group. Training will be provided for those selected for this project.
