Help Arlingtonians from your home! Each weekday, from 1:00 - 5:00p.m., volunteers for Arlingtonians Meeting Emergency Need, Inc. (AMEN) allocate funds to low- income residents in need of assistance for their rent, utility bills, prescriptions, medical and dental care, transportation and other related emergency needs. A volunteer typically receives 5-6 telephone calls from Arlington social workers who have already assessed their client needs. The volunteer verifies that each request is consistent with AMEN's established guidelines and then authorizes the needed funds. At 5:00p.m., volunteers contact AMEN's Program Manager with details from the day's activity and he prepares the checks to the appropriate creditors. Volunteers need to be comfortable using a laptop computer and be able to deliver the laptop computer to the next volunteer. They will work with Arlington social workers initiating referrals. Training is provided by the Volunteer Coordinator. The Executive Director, Program Manager and Volunteer Coordinator are available when questions arise. A volunteer is expected to volunteer at least one afternoon each month. This opportunity is sponsored by: Arlingtonians Meeting Emergency Needs, Inc.
