Host Families Needed For Foreign Exchange Students

Host families are needed for foreign exchange students for 2006-07 at Wakefield and Washington-Lee High Schools in Arlington, Va. Host families provide room, board, and a caring environment in exchange for a lifelong international friendship, an enriching experience for their family.

Since 1979, EF Foundation for Foreign Study has provided study abroad opportunities for teenagers from over 30 countries. EF selects students from an application and interview process based on their academic achievement, maturity, and adaptability. Students are fully insured, speak English, and bring their own spending money. Host families can be singles or couples with or without children. A local international exchange coordinator (IEC) reviews your application and two references and interviews all family members together. A family must also attend three orientation meetings given by the local IEC. A family can take a $50 charitable tax deduction for each month that a student resides with them for at least 15 days. A family is expected to treat the student like a family member, spend time with the student, and get to know them, as well as support the student's learning throughout the year. Applications for the school year 2006-07 are first come first served and depend on the availability of slots at local high schools.
