The Arlington Community Volunteer Network (CVN), a program managed by Volunteer Arlington, has received the 2011 Innovative Program Award from the National Association of Volunteer Programs in Local Government (NAVPLG). The award was presented at NAVPLG's annual meeting, which was held in conjunction with the 2011 National Conference on Volunteering and Service in New Orleans. The NAVPLG Innovative Program Award was established to honor the outstanding achievements of a local government program in their creation and implementation of a program that utilizes volunteers to creatively serve both their local government and their community. Criteria for the award included innovation, mobilization of volunteers, achievement, and replication. CVN is an active social network of young adults dedicated to making a difference in Arlington through volunteering, building networks, socializing, and developing leaders. Since CVN's initial interest meeting in 2004, it has grown to 562 volunteers who have contributed over 3,200 hours of service to Arlington County and local non-profits and agencies. In 2010, CVN volunteers contributed 954 hours of service at 54 events. For more information, visit Volunteer Arlington online at www.arlingtonva.us/volunteer or call (703) 228-1760. |
