Help us provide services and treatment to vulnerable clients at the Residential Program Center's homeless shelter and substance abuse treatment center. We are building a databank of volunteers who are willing and able to translate personal and medical histories, treatment plans, and recovery-related information between English-speaking staff and non-English speaking clients. The volunteers will be contacted by staff via phone during intake interviews. Translation can be done over the phone, or on-site, schedule permitting. In addition, volunteer may be asked to assist the treatment team in communicating with relatives and legal and social services. Volunteers must be able to speak fluently in English and a second language (Amharic, Arabic, and Spanish especially), and to translate conversations with some legal and medical terminology. Volunteers must submit a completed application, including background and reference checks, attend a brief orientation, and review confidentiality procedures and requirements.
