September is National Preparedness Month and Volunteer Arlington wants you to get involved. There are many ways to be involved in preparedness here in Arlington County:
Participate in the 9/11 National Day of Service & Remembrance: Arlington has always taken time on September 11 to reflect, remember, and build community. This year Arlington will join with the entire nation in honoring the lives that were lost.
Join the Arlington County Citizens Corps: Emergency volunteers represent the diverse inclusive, and vibrant communities in Arlington. By developing and supporting emergency volunteers , the county is provided with the necessary resources to support count initiatives before, during and after an emergency situation. Visit www.arlingtonva.us/oem and select VOLUNTEER.
Get Involved with the County's Emergency Preparedness Advisory Commission: The Emergency Preparedness Advisory Commission (EPAC) was created by the County Board May 15, 2009 to be an overarching advisory body charged with coordinating the efforts of the Local Emergency Planning Committee, as well as Emergency Medical Services and the Citizen Corps Council.
Help the County Practice Its Emergency Volunteer Management Capabilities: On September 25, the County will be testing its ability to manage Spontaneous Unaffiliated Volunteers during a regionally coordinated emergency volunteer mobilization exercise. Register through the Community Volunteer Network (CVN) or sign up your own Volunteer Group to serve as spontaneous volunteer actors.
