Arlington County and the Citizen Corps Council announce a new campaign, "Arlington Prepares", to help households, neighborhoods, and businesses prepare for community emergencies ranging from severe storms to threats to our homeland security. The campaign officially begins Saturday, June 5 with distribution of preparedness information packets to every household in the county. The packets include practical tips on being informed, developing emergency plans, and getting involved in Arlington preparedness. Interested in helping out? The kickoff event, called Arlington Prepares Door-to-Door, needs volunteers. You can help distribute the preparedness packets door-to-door, or help organize your neighborhood, building, or workplace. There are plenty of jobs to do. And every job is important. Other Arlington Prepares events this year will include partnerships with community organizations and businesses, disaster preparedness presentations, and a community emergency exercise this fall. |
