Support The Salvation Army National Capital Area Command to organize, expand, and promote volunteer opportunities and in kind donation drives throughout the DC Metro area. Learn about and gain experience in: • Building positive relationships between volunteers, community partners, and The Salvation Army National Capital Area Command team while providing a stimulating and enjoyable experience for volunteers; • Operating and making ongoing assessments and improvements to the volunteer recruitment, screening, orientation, and placement process; • Conducting ongoing training of volunteers; • Coordinating regular monthly check-in meetings with volunteers; • Developing volunteer materials; • Tracking and monitoring inventory of in-kind donations; • Identifying and pursuing potential avenues to increase awareness of The Salvation Army National Capital Area Command • Editing and writing communications to volunteers Time Commitment: This position is generally 10-15 hours per week during the school year and full time in the summer. The position will run for one semester with the possibility of extension Dates: Fall Semester Internship: Mid September - Mid December Summer Internship: End of May – Mid August (2013) Spring Semester Internship: Mid January – Mid May Minimum Qualifications: Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, strong organizational skills, skillful listening skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to work independently as well as in a team. Career interest in non-profit organization preferred but not required, willing to accept a variety of tasks, and a positive attitude. • Fluent English required • Research skills. Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience working in a non-profit environment, currently enrolled or recently graduated from a post-secondary accredited college.
Minimum Qualifications: Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, strong organizational skills, skillful listening skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to work independently as well as in a team, willing to accept a variety of tasks, a positive attitude, fluent English and research skills required.
