Volunteer Opportunity - Mentoring Program

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Male volunteers are needed to mentor inmates before and after their release from the Fairfax County jail. Mentoring pairs will be matched based on age, interests, and need.Volunteers will mentor the same person during the 15-month commitment (3 months mentoring in the jail; 12 months in the community). Weekly commitment is approximately 2 hours plus travel time to the jail. Training is provided by OAR and the Fairfax County Sheriff's Department. A background check will be conducted.

Initially a volunteer applicant attends a 2 hour OAR Orientation. Attendance at a Sheriff Department training is required. Additionally, 2 hour OAR mission related in-services are held every other month.

Turn on to Page Avenue off of Judicail Drive at the Red Hot and Blue Restaurant on Rt 123. Stay on Judicial following the curve to the right. At that point you will see a large new Post Office. Turn right on to Page at the Post Office and continue to the first non post office driveway on your left. Turn left into the parking lot. Parking is free, but you must come to second floor OAR office to avoid towing.
