Violence Intervention Program Facilitator

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Volunteers are needed to co-facilitate a certified "Batterer's Intervention" program designed to change the behavior and attitudes of those responsible for acts of domestic violence and to eliminate future violent behavior.

Curriculum is provided and covers topics such as: Understanding Crime and Violence, the Cycle of Violence, Personal Violence Prevention, Accountability and Responsibility, Communication, Alternatives to Violence and Control, and the Effects of Domestic Violence. Each program runs once a week in the evening for 18-weeks.

As a member of Virginians Against Domestic Violence, OAR's Violence Intervention Program (VIP) is designed to be consistent with "best practice" standards adopted by the state of Virginia.
The Violence Intervention Program has been fully certified under these state-wide standards since 2002

Familiarity with Domestic Violence Program materials and group facilitation a plus; but will train the right volunteer.

The Violence Intervention Program (VIP) is an 18- week, referral-based intervention program designed to aid in the reduction and elimination of domestic violence in Northern Virginia. The program attempts to achieve this goal by increasing the batterer's accountability, general understanding of the impact of their behavior, and self-regulation skills.
The classes are held in the OAR office in Fairfax.

Turn on to Page Avenue off of Judicail Drive at the Red Hot and Blue Restaurant on Rt 123. Stay on Judicial following the curve to the right. At that point you will see a large new Post Office. Turn right on to Page at the Post Office and continue to the first non post office driveway on your left. Turn left into the parking lot. Parking is free, but you must come to second floor OAR office to avoid towing.
