Family Outreach Volunteer

Individual applicants and teams are welcome. Volunteers needed to reach out to the families of the incarcerated by bringing information and guidance to families and friends of inmates.

How can volunteers help? Volunteers make themselves available during visiting hours at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center to answer questions, to provide information about OAR, and other resources, to lead the relatives and friends of the incarcerated to the OAR Family Support Group, and to be an empathetic listener.

Volunteers will disseminate information regarding assistance available for families and friends and offer an empathetic ear for families in crisis.

Shifts: Volunteers serve one 2-hour shift per weekend on either a Saturday or Sunday.

This volunteer needs a friendly face and the ability to make strangers comfortable.

New volunteers have the opportunity to work with an experienced volunteer until they feel confident enough to work alone.

This opportunity is sponsored by: Opportunities, Alternatives And Resources (OAR) Of Fairfax County, Inc.
