Agency - Community Volunteer Network (CVN)

Community Volunteer Network (CVN) is an active social network of young adults (20s & 30s) dedicated to making a positive difference in Arlington through volunteering, building networks, socializing, and developing leaders.

Description:
CURRENT STRUCTURE: Everyone is encouraged to attend our monthly meetups and attend and lead volunteer activities and events.

There are 3 voting officers that serve as a volunteer leadership team to guide, plan, and make decisions for CVN along with the County Liaison.

History:
-Launched in 2003, Community Role Models (CRM) was made possible by County Board Member Walter Tejada at the urging of community members.

• Greg Castano was assigned to be the County Liaison to the program.
• In April 2004, a steering committee assembled to guide the direction of the program. The program got started with a kick off event at Whitlows on Wilson in May 2004. There were 65 CRM volunteers in attendance.
• In 2004 and 2005, CRM volunteers organized learning forums and volunteer activities. The steering committee also developed a 4 year strategic plan.
• In 2006, CRM held a speaker series and partnered with Eric Legg of PRCR to launch the What’s Up Arlington newsletter and blog.
• In 2007, the leadership team was formed and Miles Grant, the first chairman, was selected. It was then that the monthly meetups started.
• In April 2007, CRM’s leadership team was recognized by Arlington County as an Outstanding Volunteer Team.
• In 2007, CRM created a Facebook Group to manage its social events.
• In 2008, CRM was recognized with an Acts of Caring Award by the National Association of Counties.
• In July 2008, Sharon Tewksbury-Bloom took over as County Liaison to the program.
• In 2009, the leaders of CRM decided to change the name to Community Volunteer Network (CVN). They also changed the color scheme of the logo.
• In January 2009, Brendan O’Connor took over as Chair of the newly named CVN.
• In July 2009, CVN celebrated five years of success at the Arlington Arts Center with Board Member Walter Tejada, nationally recognized nonprofit leader Robert Egger, and WJLA reporter, Scott Thurman.
• In Fall 2009, CVN conducted online surveys and held a meeting for stakeholders of CVN to analyze the survey results and discuss the future of CVN.
• In 2010, CVN expanded into a committee structure that enabled more volunteers to have leadership roles.
• In March 2010, CVN launched a new blog, the CVN Forum to encourage dialogue within the CVN network.
• In April 2010, Brendan O’Connor was recognized as an Arlington County Outstanding Volunteer.
• In May 2010, Tiffany Kudravetz took over as the third Chair of CVN.
• In April 2011, the CVN Recurring Volunteering Committee was recognized as an Arlington County Outstanding Volunteer Team.
• In April 2011, Meredith Meade took over as the fourth Chair of CVN.
• In April 2011, Tiffany Kudravetz took over as the County Liaison to the program.
• In May 2011, CVN received a Deutsche Post DHL Living Responsibility Fund Grant to support the group’s recurring gardening projects.
• In June 2011, CVN was recognized with the Innovative Program Award from the National Association of Volunteer Programs in Local Government.
• In Fall 2011, CVN conducted another online survey and held a meeting for stakeholders of CVN to analyze the survey results and discuss the future of CVN.
• In January 2012, Garry Knobler became the fifth Chair of CVN.
