Organization - AARP TaxAide

AARP TaxAide is a volunteer organization that provides free tax assistance and preparation services for low and moderate income and elderly citizens.

Description:
The AARP TaxAide program trains volunteers to electronically complete and file federal and state income tax forms. All ages and backgrounds are welcome; the ability to use a computer is required. Tax Return experience is highly desireable. Counselors receive free tax training and become IRS certified by passing the IRS examination.

Training takes place each year in Dec. and Jan.
Daytime, evening and Saturday volunteer shifts are available. Services are provided at 11 different sites in Northern Virginia.

Volunteers select the hours their preferred locations and the hours they are available to volunteer. All volunteers are placed based on their work location preference and hours.

History:
AARP Tax-aide of Northern VA has been providing tax assistance and preparation for over 20 years.
In 2012, the trained tax counselors completed about 8800 returns.
