Edu-Futuro (formerly Escuela Bolivia) empowers Latino children, youth, and families through education and leadership development to succeed and contribute to their community, while teaching others about Latin American cultures.

Edu-Futuro was established in 1998 by Latino parents, in partnership with Arlington Public Schools, who sought to meet the educational needs of the Greater DC region's growing Latino population. Since its inception, Edu-Futuro has worked to empower thousands of Latino children, youth, and families through education and leadership development programs. Edu-Futuro also teaches the broader community about Latin American cultures to enhance cross-cultural understanding.

Core programs include:
• Escuela Bolivia Program: The organization began as an academic enrichment program for children and offers ESL and Spanish classes to adults. To date, we have developed the language and academic skills of more than 3,500 children and adults.
• Emerging Leaders Program (ELP): ELP is a college prep and leadership development program that serves 70+ Latino youth each year. Students are prepared for success through a series of workshops on topics such as building effective study skills, university campus visits, community service activities, and interaction with young professional Latino mentors. The program also trains Latino parents to become advocates for their children's education by improving communication in the home and strengthening involvement in schools. More than 1,000 parents have benefitted from this program since 2004.

Edu-Futuro's Latino roots have given the organization a unique insight into our community's needs. As such, it has developed community-based solutions to support Latino families of modest means from Arlington and surrounding communities.

A grassroots effort, Edu-Futuro was volunteer-led for its first seven years of existence and, over the years, has grown from a few volunteers to a respected nonprofit with a Board of Directors and more than 25 full-time and part-time staff. To this day, we maintain a strong volunteer culture, benefitting from 100+ volunteers each year who are involved in our different programs. Edu-Futuro is included in the 2011-12 Catalogue For Philanthropy, an annual publication which vets and features some of the "best smaller nonprofits" in the Greater Washington region. The organization also recently secured a permanent spot on GlobalGiving, an online world-wide fundraising platform that vets and gives nonprofits the opportunity to raise funds and gain greater visibility. This past year the organization garnered recognition through The Washington Post, WUSA9, and Comcast Newsmakers.
