| Last updated on March 30, 2012 |
To encourage independence for people with disabilities by sustaining and strengthening our position as the nation's leading provider of quality Assistance Dogs. PAWS has placed nearly 2,100 Assistance Dogs.
Description:
Paws With A Cause trains Assistance Dogs for people who are physically challenged, hearing impaired/deaf, or for people who have seizures. Service Dogs perform tasks such as opening doors, turning on light switches, or picking up dropped objects. Hearing Dogs alert individuals to basic sounds such as someone at the door, a phone ringing, smoke alarm or baby crying. Seizure Response Dogs can push life-alerts, or help or comfort someone who is having a seizure.
History:
Paws With A Cause originally started out as Ears for the Deaf in 1979. After much research of disabilities, in 1987 Ears for the Deaf became Paws With A Cause, adding Service Dogs and Seizure Alert dogs to be able to cover more of a broad spectrum.
